Prague

June 14

There was some confusion with my booking at the hostel so I ended up with 4 free breakfasts. Breakfast here consists of unlimited cereal, yogurt, sausage, eggs, toast and pancakes. It’s definitely the best breakfast I’ve seen! Brent was supposed to lead a John Lennon Wall walk at 10:15, but it was moved to 1pm so I went to join a free walking tour of the city. The tour was led by a guy from Colorado so that was kind of weird, but he’s lived in Prague for over 2 years so he still knew a lot. We started by watching the astronomical clock which is one of the most overrated tourist attractions in Europe. It’s a pretty lame show lol then we walked around and saw the Old Town Hall, Charles Bridge, National Theater, Orchestra House and the Jewish District.

After the walking tour, I grabbed lunch then headed back to the hostel. After a little rest, I headed back to Old Town Square and went up the Old Town Hall Tower (there’s an elevator 🙂 It had cleared up from the rainy morning, and the view was amazing! Of course, it was really crowded, but so worth it! After I reluctantly came back down (I took the stairs down!), I grabbed some food and headed back to the hostel so that I could go on the beer tour that they put on.

The beer tour took us to 2 different breweries, the first of which was way better than the second. The second one closed at 10pm so then we took the party back to the basement pub we were at the night before. We got to drink some more and watch some Euro Futbol so it was a good time. Most people went out to a club afterwards, but like the responsible adult I am, I called it a night and went to bed.

This morning I went on a walking tour with a guide from the hostel and it ended up just being me and another guy. It rained a little on us, but overall, the tour was excellent. We walked through most of what I had already seen, but it’s nice to hear about the sites and history from another point of view. At the end, we were able to go up the tot the end of the Charles Bridge because our guide works for the city of Prague and got us in for free!

After the tour I hung out at Starbucks for a little then went and got lunch at a crepe place nearby. It was delicious! After lunch I walked around a bit more and looked for some artwork, but didn’t find any I really liked so I headed back to the hostel.

I booked a tour of Castle Hill that started at 5pm and lasted about 3 hours. The tour guide was good, but the tour itself I don’t think was worth 15 Euros. There’s a lot to see on the Hill so while it was nice to have a guide, it probably wasn’t worth the price. After the tour I got dinner and then headed back to the hostel.
